Moving away from the fixed camera of the original Silent Hill 2 would allow fans to explore new elements, according to a senior developer from Bloober Team working on the remake. y2t1c

Similar to the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes, Silent Hill 2 has been updated with a more conventional third-person viewpoint. Even while many seasoned players won’t enjoy the suspense that a fixed camera creates, exploring the game’s classic places will be considerably more enjoyable without it.

Senior narrative designer Barbara Kciuk stated during the Silent Hill Transmission event that while Bloober Team has been able to “expand on certain aspects” thanks to modern technology, the tale portrayed in the original horror game will “largely remain the same” in the remake.

In particular, abandoning static cameras will open up new “elements”:

When creating a game with static cameras, you as the designer have much more control over what players see, where they go, and so on. Changing to a third person perspective was a challenge. However, this is a chance for us to expand this world, show players new elements that were previously unavailable, and simply make this world richer.

The Silent Hill 2 remake will release on October 8th, just in time for Halloween.
